While watching a movie or TV show, do you see the picture look odd and the picture is off? If so, your LG TV is facing a color distortion problem. This is one of the LG TV problems that occurs due to multiple reasons, and a single fix will never solve the problem.
So, to get you out of this, I have drafted a list of troubleshooting methods you can use to fix this issue on your own.
Reasons for LG TV Showing Color Distortion
If you see color distortion in your picture or improper color on your TV, your TV faces the following issues.
- Loose connection with external devices.
- Improper picture settings on LG TV
- Backlight issues on your LG TV
Steps to Fix the Color Distortion Problem on LG Smart TV
To fix the color distortion on your LG TV display on your own, then try out the following troubleshooting remedies.
Restart Your LG Smart TV
As a first step of troubleshooting, restart your LG TV. When your LG TV is undergoing a restart, it will refresh its memory and remove unwanted bugs on your TV. This will solve any issues your TV is facing and get it working properly.
Connectivity Issues on LG TV
Do you see the distorted picture on your LG TV when accessing an external device? Then, the problem is with the connectivity. When the HDMI cables connecting the external device are damaged or partially connected to your LG TV, you will see uneven colors on your TV display.
So, to fix this connectivity issue, make sure to use a new or undamaged HDMI or any other cable component with your LG TV.
Perform Quick Help Test on LG TV
Quick Help is a built-in feature that is developed on every webOS TV model for diagnosing. Using this, you can find out any issues that your TV is facing and can come up with a counter-fix to your problem. So, with your LG TV turned on,
- Press and hold the number 9 button on your remote and select the Check TV Status option.
- Next, choose the Check RF/HDMI option from the list and click on Start Diagnosis and Learn More.
Once the diagnosis is finished, you will see the root cause of your LG TV color distortion problem. So, by bringing in a counter-fix to the problem, you can easily fix the LG TV color distortion in no time.
Take Picture Test on LG Smart TV
Similar to Quick Help, LG has also designed a dedicated feature called Picture Test. By taking the Picture test, you can find out if your current picture setting is correct and the reasons for your picture problems.
So besides the Quick Help, I also insist you take up a picture test on LG TV. To take this test,
- LG webOS 6.0 users: Open All Settings → Support → Self-Diagnosis → Hit Yes.
- LG webOS 4.0 users: Go to All Settings → Support → Additional Settings → Select Picture Test → Choose Yes.
Once the picture test is over, you will see the results regarding your TV picture problems. So, based on the result, perform a counter-fix to get things done.
Fix Your LG TV Picture Settings
Besides the color distortion, if your LG TV shows a grey screen or inverted colors, then the problem is with your picture settings. When the Grayscale or Inverted color feature is turned on, your LG TV will show a different color proportion on the screen. So, to get rid of any color issues and distorted pictures on your LG TV, follow the listings.
- Adjust your LG TV brightness levels from maximum to moderate.
- Calibrate your LG TV picture settings by moderating the Contrast, Sharpness, and Tint and changing picture modes.
- Turn off the Grayscale feature on LG TV by going to All Settings → General → Accessibility → Grayscale → Turn it off.
- Similarly, you can turn off the Inverted color setting on your TV by going to All Settings → General → Accessibility → Inverted Color → Disable it.
Upon optimizing the picture settings, check whether the color distortion on your LG TV is solved or not.
Cool Down Your LG TV
If your LG TV is constantly running for a long time, it will produce the necessary heat. When your LG TV gets overheated, you will see various issues, such as apps not working, LG TV being slow, and display problems.
In that case, simply turn off your LG TV and let it cool down for an hour. Once cooled down, check if your LG TV is still showing the color distortion problem.
Check Your LG TV Backlight
If the above fixes don’t offer a solution, then your LG TV is facing a backlight issue. When the backlight of your LG TV is broken, you may face color issues and even a black screen. So contact LG Customer Service or a local technician to have a look at your TV backlights and get the issue sorted.
These are some of the easy remedies you can try to fix the LG TV color distortion problem on your TV. If you have tried out some of the fixes mentioned here and are stuck at some point, then tell me about it on my LG TV forum page for help.
